Full Newscast Back at ABC 32 WNCF
WAKA received notice recently that they no longer will be producing the 9pm news cast for the CW. Why is this big? Because the CW will still have news and a big part of it will be produced at the Harrison Road facilities of WNCF ABC 32…the station that owns the local CW affiliate. The reason I start with this is because if ABC 32 is producing news for it’s CW station at 9pm…this means they will producing news for the ABC station at 10pm too.
A 30 minute weeknight newscast at 9pm on the CW, and a 30 minute weeknight newscast at 10pm on ABC 32 will kick off on April 1. And here is something else for the techies out there…the newscast will be in HD. I heard that WSFA is working on making the Fox 20 news cast in HD, and if they did, that would leave WAKA as the only station with a news cast being produced in SD.
The new newscast will still be using the mix of INN anchors, local reporters and local sports but in a longer format. In fact, if you are a reporter looking for a job right now…ABC 32 is hiring. Check out their web site for information on the two reporter openings that have now…ABC 32 Jobs.
What’s INN you might ask too…read more about them by clicking here.
All in all this is great for viewers and advertisers. Viewers have more options to watch and should expect a little bit more competition going on every night. Advertisers have more venues and possibly lower rates in reaching their target audience. The only people that really get hurt are the TV stations that are paying the big bucks to produce what will be 5 late night news cast every weekday evening. We’ve done this cycle before…but I will say that WNCF appears to be taking smart moves to make sure they aren’t over exposing themselves by using out of market anchors and concentrating their funds into reporters and sports. Anchors can be anywhere as can weather guys, but to cover the news and be at the games…you need locals. Personally, I hope it goes well for WNCF. Everyone loves to cheer for David as he takes on Goliath!
