WAKA Weather: Better or Worse?

WAKA has had the most changes to its weather department it’s ever had since I can remember. Chief Meteorologist Chris Bailey didn’t have his contract renewed and then Matt Tanner was dismissed a few months later. As people left, of course new people stepped up to take their place. In the end, have the changes made WAKA’s weather Better or Worse so far?

Finally! After almost a year and a half since Montgomery locals were turned up on Direct. Picture quality is great. ...
Now if only they would change those ugly wxgraphics!
McDonald comes across as way too “fakey” when she speaks. She almost comes across as if she is talking to a kid or a 90 year old grandmother. Her meteorological skills are sorely lacking and her forecasts have been incorrect several times. It’s apparent: this station just hired her for one reason — because management wanted a woman. That’s not what sells weather to a television audience. You need accuracy and charisma that have to be bundled into one. Charisma doesn’t always mean hiring the girl with the biggest boobs. WAKA should know this by now. In my opinion, this hire only pushes WAKA back further. There’s NO experience at WAKA weather anymore. At least Bailey appeared confident in what he was telling people. I’m sure the ratings continue to drop. And I really wish WAKA weather people wouldn’t WALK on the graphics. It looks absolutely ridiculous…always has!!! Too bad WAKA lost some very good, talented, and smart people a few years back when ratings were coming up there.
LOL I also hate when they ‘walk on water’ on the graphics..ashley was way more live on the morning news than what she is now—-she talks very, very slow just as it was stated in the comment above.
Agreed. WAKA has a lot of talented people, but it just seems like they put them in the wrong places. Bailey was good, and so was Tanner — hate that the station felt like canning them was the best way to make changes in on-air talent. McDonald may be the prettiest or have the most degrees, but she was a better fit for a morning or daytime newscast. Just like Tim Lenox looks miserable doing a “hey, good morning River Region!” at 6:00 a.m. … he’d be better at 6:00 p.m. or 10:00 p.m. because the very nature of an evening newscast calls for more seriousness.
In my opinion, WAKA was at its best when Ashley Paige and David Baxley were on in the mornings … they were as good a team as Judd Davis and Tonya Terry (or Joe Hagler and Alva Lambert, for that matter).
You have got to be kidding me… David was good. But Ashley was by far the worst on air personality ever. The morning show back then was like the Ashely variety show. My god she sung Rudolph the red nose reindeer. She lost all creditability when she did that. She was wanting to be a local celebrity and that is it. The best WAKA morning show is when they had Nicondra, Amber and Steve . They had great chemistry. But Tonya is to fake as well.. They need to take notes from the Mobile market. I like Ashley McDonald and I think they should have kept Matt.
WAKA SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING WITH CBS 8 This Morning!!! It doesn’t even look right for Kait to be sitting aside the old man…there are some markets smaller than Montgomery that have 2 morning anchors..and WAKA should too. By early next year, they need a revamped morning show and start at 5am with WSFA.
5-7am (2 anchors)
Noon/5pm – Jeff, Jamie
6&10pm – Glenn, Stefanie
*They could also put Jeff and Jamie on CBS 8 This Morning/Noon, let Glenn & Stefanie anchor the 5, 6, & 10p
They could also ‘try’ to go beyond wsfa and put Tim on weekends with Jenna. They’ll then become probably the only station in Alabama with weekend co-anchors or have him to do something else. Lol
WAKA’s weather isn’t even credible anymore. T&A don’t play with me. Chris Bailey was way better than anyone they’ve got on the air now. They’re also the only station in the area now not doing their news in HD. It’s WSFA or nothing for me.
I think WAKA has come a long way. I think anything is better than Bob Howell making a stupid comment after every story and even worse is WSFA’s morning show. Seems like all the good ones leave. I like all the weather people in Montgomery.
WAKA’s morning show with Tim Lennox and the weather team (except Kait) = garbage!!! I’ve stopped watching them. WSFA’s newscasts are GREAT! I wish WNCF had more newscasts and they are way better than CBS 8. Jeff and Stefanie are the only good anchors at WAKA.
The weather reports are good. And there is nothing wrong with it being presented by beautiful women. You ever look at Rich real close?
I have the greatest solution to the problem at WAKA: Get management out of there!!! Things will never change at WAKA because of the “good ole boy” mentality at that place. They ticked off so many people – and good professional people — that those ex-employees decided to get the heck out of dodge rather than deal with management, RM and JC, who didn’t appreciate them. I’m not quite sure why those two don’t work for the Playboy channel. Bunnies are not news or weather people. Get over it.

method of weather forcasting than the girl that is on there now.

CBS 8′s girls are sexy, but I don’t watch usually them. I watch WSFA because they provide accuracy and quality in each newscast (unlike the crap that WAKA puts up in the morning). Plus, there’s sexy reporters at WSFA, too – Bethany, Tonya, Sally, Valorie, Jennifer, Allyson and the 3 Melissa’s.

I’ve gotten to where I don’t listen to either WAKA or WSFA. Let it thunder and folks are cutting into programming with constant coverage of “areas of concern”; the 3-D radar crap and scewed maps just confuse me more; the radar sweeps across the screen need to go, as they don’t update with each rotation; mispronouncing locations, nuff said; and WSFA with their town by town break down of tempts – get a grip – we’re in the flippin South and the tempts aren’t going to change from Blue Ridge, to Wetumpka, to Walsboro and Lake Martin enough for people to tell!!!
At least you guys know that you can depend on your stations to come on when bad weather strikes. I live in Panama City and our stations don’t hardly come on with severe wx coverage
