Wanna Be A Jock on The Gump?
The idea is being tossed around at Bluewater to hold a “contest” like audition process to find the jocks for the new 104.9 The Gump. So, do you want to be a jock on The Gump?
From what I have been told the idea will be to include the Gump website, BuzzMontgomery.com along with Facebook and Twitter to allow the listeners to vote for who the want. So basically this will be the “Gump Idol”…at least that is the name I’m throwing out there. Rick Peters, Mike Alan and Greg Rickaby will play the part of judges, but ultimately your votes will determine who wins.
None of this is firm yet, but the idea is pretty unique. Soon as I hear more about how this will work, when, how to apply etc., it will be posted on this site.

Sounds like a good idea, but is there not already a short list of talent that bluewater would like to staff this station with?
Although I’ll have to do most of listening online, I’m predicting this station will do very well.
Rock on Gump. Your station is a breath of fresh air, to a radio market that needed it.
To Bluewater, you sir have done something that’s totally outside the box. I must give you my props and Kudos for having the “Balls” to take this bold and exciting move. Hope it pays off in the end!
B.T.W. I’m asking this question to humor everyone reading. How will this station affect 95.1 The Fox?
unfortunately, the fm signal isn’t all too strong. i was losing it driving on taylor road.
Tropospheric ducting this morning. They we probably hearing it in Savannah!
Just in case others don’t know what Troposhperic Ducting is, check out this wiki article on it – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropospheric_propagation
DXer’s (distance listeners) love it when these kind of conditions exist as they never know what will come in.
Liking the Gump a lot. Imaging needs work though. Also the addition of jocks is needed asap.
I tried listening to it in Troy the other day, but couldn’t due to the oldies station in Ozark that also is 103.9 FM.
Sorry, I meant 104.9.
Yeah, whomever is doing the VO/Imaging is a total hoser eh
Oh wait…
I have been listening to the Gump this weekend. I really liked a lot of what I was hearing. I honestly hope they don’t get any on-air talent. The current format is very reminiscent of the Jack FM stations that have started popping up. I love listening to that station when I go to California with my wife, and I think it would be a successful idea here in Montgomery.
Listened this morning on the way to work and got to relive 1995 with Weezer’s Buddy Holly. (Anyone remember Windows 95 coming with the Buddy Holly video?) Not long afterward got to hear Muse’s Uprising. I didn’t think I was a rock music fan…but I’m liking the mix so far.
I spent all of this money recently getting XM for my car and the Montgomery area gets all of these great stations over the past year or so. We’ve added a rock station, sports talk station and a politcal talk station. Maybe I should just cancel XM or enjoy the riches of having it plus the local flavor.
As someone who used to be in a Nirvana cover band in the early to mid 90′s this station (104.9) is right in line with my music tastes. Well, it does leave out my 80′s obsession but that is another story.
Some of the music is alternative, some is mainstream Rock and sometimes a little too heavy. More alternative please.
The ‘Buddy Holly’ video was on the set of “Happy Days”. Oh, 1994/95, the best days of alternative rock and power pop!
Actually Anon, there isn’t a song played on the Gump that can’t be found in the top 500 most played songs as tabulated by mediabase/alternative chart for 2010. Maybe your view of what is “alternative” is more limited in scope than the actual format? I assure you that the music is right on – personal preferences not withstanding.
An Alt station in this market will die a slow death…the only thing that can save it is world class talent or some crazy locals…playing the Top 500 mediabase tested songs on random is lame….
