Coming Soon: The Winegard Project

feature photo

Our market lacks several over-the-air stations.  Important to most around here, we no longer have a MyNetwork TV affiliate.  We also lack affiliates for ION and Galavision.  Many in our area only view TV through an antenna.  Now MontgomeryTvandRadio is teaming up with national antenna maker Winegard to find out what TV channels lay out there in the fringe.  Winegard is generously providing the following equipment to MTR:

HD8200U Antenna

HD7698P Antenna

HD-9032 Antenna

AP-8700 UHF/VHF preamplifier

AP-4700 UHF only preamplifier

SW-0010 3’ tripod

TB-0005 5 ‘ mast

I believe we can help you get a MyNetworkTV affiliate back in your house and many more channels.  We plan to try each of these antennas and pre-amps at various locations throughout the area and post our results.  From there we can recommend ways for you to get the channels you want.  We are hopeful that our experiment will be successful.  Also, you will soon be able to purchase Winegard products at a discount through our new affiliate, solidsignal.com

I have the Wetumpka area covered for testing and Brian’s locked down Pike Road.  We are looking for volunteers with large attics in central Montgomery, Prattville, Millbrook, Hope Hull and parts in between for this experiment.  We will come to your house and use Winegard’s equipment to see what channels you can receive.  Depending on where you live in the area you may receive channels from Mobile/Pensacola, Auburn/Columbus and Birmingham.  Contact me or Brian via email and we’ll select a few of you for the experiment.  Let us know what neighborhood you live in, if you have easy access to a coaxial cable in the attic and any other details that make your location special for testing.

Wow, that was fast! We now have volunteers in place for Wetumpka, Pike Road, Redland, Prattville and Hope Hull. We’re still looking for volunteers from East Montgomery, Central Montgomery and Millbrook.

Anyone interested to see what the results might be from Lake Martin? I’m sure I can borrow attic space at my parent’s house on the water near Dadeville.

Cohen’s has now donated an LCD TV to use while testing the antennas in attics. MTR greatly appreciates this generous support. Testers are still needed for midtown, east Montgomery and Millbrook. Please let us know if your are interested.

Depending on where you live in the area I think a Windegard deep fringe antenna can get you a MyNetworkTV affiliate from either Birmingham, Dothan/Panama City, Mobile/Pennsacola or Auburn/Columbus. Let us come to your house and find out!

The huge 8200 is now set up in my attic in Wetumpka. The results are mixed. Little or no signal strength during the day. However, from 6pm to 6am the results are pretty good. I can get Fox 6 at 90% and MyNet 68, The CW Birmingham, NBC 13, CBS 42 at 75-80% I’ve gotten sniffs of WUOA and ABC 33/40 but nothing that’s lasted very long. But, if you like wrestling and miss seeing it on MyNet, a Winegard antenna in your attic will probably get you the MyNet Birmingham if you live in Millbrook, Wetumpka or Prattville. If the antenna is outside you should see much better results. If you are interested in buying an antenna or TV equipment, please check out our affiliate, solidsignal.com, on the home page.

I’d love to get improved reception here in the heart of the Garden District. Signals come and go, depending on temperature and time of day. Now using one of those round flat omni-directional gizmos with built-in preamp.

Watched WWE Friday Night in HD on MyNetWork 68 out of Birmingham tonight with the Winegard HD8200U in the attic in Wetumpka. Got 80% or more signal strength at 7pm and 100% at 10pm.
