Morris and Montiel Are No More

From News Talk 107.9‘s Morris & Montiel Facebook Fan Page:

Dan Morris – Let me confirm to all that Morris and Montiel as you know it ended on Wednesday. I will always love this audience. At an appropriate time and forum I will provide you the whole truth as always.

Mark Montiel – Pray for my old radio partner Dan Morris. He has been put in a difficult position by Bluewater. One person doing the show every day was not our agreement. Thanks again for the prayers. Mark.

This is all we know for now.  Soon as more comes out…it will be on here.

    To Rick,
I wish the music line-up at 96.1 could be updated or expanded. I listen to it most and the songs are getting stagnant, plus I’m noticing a lot of repitition. You have a group out here that grew up with the 60′s and 70′s music but the same old songs tends to drive them away – i.e. the Gump. Just a suggestion.

  2. Rick Peters says:

The station plays twice the playlist of Mix or Fox – not that they are the standard. Good suggestion an we will look for some other good testing songs. Also, check out Mike Harvey – moving on Monday to 9p Mon-Fri and 5-11 Sats. He plays almost Anything!

  3. Loyal Listener says:

Mike Harvey just played “That Thing You Do”. Never heard that on any radio station, as it’s from a movie about a made-up ’60s group.

@Mr. Peters: No coincidence at all! Sideways proposal for a gig! You have my email address…

Even though I got to the party late…I have to address “loyal listener” comments about clearchannel. What is this about “3 hip-hop stations?” What you were trying to say was 3 BLACK radio stations right? Come on now…Clear Channel has 1 hip-hop station, one urban gospel and one urban ac…the last two have NOTHING to do with hip hop…If you gonna do the racial insulting…please get it right!

As far as all the attacks on Rick Peters…I have to disagree and I have never worked for the man but personally I think bluewater has excellent products. Besides..when it comes to radio..all that matters is what comes out of the speakers…trust me – listeners could careless about the “owners” of their favorite stations. All they want to do is hear there favorite song. When was the last time you had a listener call up and want to hear about “who the owner of the radio station is..”

  6. Loyal Listener says:

OK – no profiling intended. One hip-hop station, one urban gospel station, and one urban AC station would have been the appropriate description of the Clear Channel stations.

  7. Edge says:

Montiel will start Monday 1/31/11 with Kevin Elkins and Cumulus. Monday through Friday

Montiel and Elkins together will be chaos. Better to have them alternate days or better yet just have Montiel every day. Dan Morris hasn’t cut it alone and just is too timid or ensconced with the local establishment to take on the tough local issues that people are most interested in. Montiel is wrong sometimes but puts things on the table without regard to how powerful local officials are. That makes for compelling radio that I will listen to. Blue Water got rid of him because he was a diva but a lot of successful entertainers are. Cumulus may well be hitting a home run for AM radio with Montiel and run Morris’ FM show off the air.
