Dish To Drop More Channels?(Fox Sports South Included)

feature photo

Over the past year Dish Network has dropped Disney HD, Disney XD HD, Family HD, ESPNNEWS HD and Fuse HD from its lineup.  Now, satelliteguys is reporting that Fox Sports South, FX and National Geographic may be gone by Friday.  It’s a contract dispute again.  What is going at Dish?  I’ve been a loyal subscriber and fanboy for about five years but this may be the last straw.

Dish does have a little more HD than DirecTV and has a better DVR.  DirecTV has had some issues but nothing like Dish.  DirecTV also seems to do a better job negotiating with stations than Dish.  I live in Wetumpka but I won’t go for Brighthouse because I’ll lose at least 40 HD channels.  I’ve got some decisions to make.

What are your thoughts?  Does the fact that DirecTV will have locals by October 27th impact your TV subscription purchases?

I’ve had DirecTV for nearly a dozen years and in more than one market. Can’t beat their customer service and dependability. Not sure I want their local HD channels as they’re not as crisp and snappy as OTA.

It’s official. Fox sports South, FX and Nat Geo are gone. However, you now get the multi-sport pack for free as some sort of compensation. You should be able to find any game you want by searching your guide.

I’m still waiting for one of them to offer BBC America in HD. Until then, I’m not considering either. It’s been almost a year since DirectTV launched their new satellite to expand their HD offerings and really not much to show for it. How long until they change their tune on Free HD for Life? Will Dish continue to promote Free HD for Life?

  4. Jason Trippe says:

Actually, Dish Network has had BBC America in HD for quite some time now.

I think Free HD is here to stay as the cable companies offer it too. Dish will get the lost channels back and will continue to add HD. I don’t know what DirecTVs problem is. If they would add more HD to compete with Dish then I will definately switch. One one hand I would gain MLB and ESPNU in HD on DirecTV but I would lose DIY, EPIX, Sony, Nat Geo Wild, etc. if I left Dish. I probably watch DIY HD more than any other channel.

we are so frustrated. have only had dish for 5 months, most of my favorite programs are on ch 2, ktvn., including some sports. now we loose the best programs available. the choices left are all re-runs and old movies. with the long contract it would cost us $242 to
change . since we cant afford that im turning off the tv and going back to…reading books in the evening. when we can we are going back to direct tv forever.

Jane, Are you sure on the right site? KTVN is a Reno, Nevada station. Dish Net in the Montgomery area has all of the locals. The issues with all of the other Fox networks was resolved months ago.
