Kait Parker Gone from WAKA
December 4th, 2010 • Related • Filed Under
There has been much speculation here at MTR around the most recent Meteorologist opening at WAKA that was posted…most have pointed to Kait Parker leaving WAKA. I have confirmed this to be true. Kait’s last official day was yesterday, Friday, December 3. You can catch her one last time tonight though, Saturday, December 4 at 10 pm for a curtain call of sorts. Make sure you tune in.
Kait came to WAKA in June 2009. Her future plans are unavailable at this time but as soon as we know more, it will be posted here.

She was introduced as “meteorologist” and not “CBS 8 Meteorologist”. I hope she lands on her feet and remains in TV. She has a personality that lends itself perfectly to morning TV. On the bright side, with her gone, I no longer have to get up at 5:28 am.
NOOO!
Hope she lands @ Channel 12. Really like Kait.

Seems to be an unusually high turnover of Weather Folks at 8. Not looking good for the Station.
On the other hand, we can go to 12 and have them talk for 15 Minutes about what could be said in 3.
She has turned up in West Palm Beach Florida on WPTV!
Well, as someone else said, no reason to get up and watch the news anymore.
Marcy Novak from KTBS in Shreveport is replacing her at WAKA.
When we see a turnover such as we have at WAKA it generally reflects on management issues.
First Chris Bailey and now Kait? I’m changing station loyalty
I hope Ashley doesn’t leave.
I guess there’s no local news to watch now with Channel 8 going down hill and I can’t stand Channel 12.
Thank you WAKA !!! South Florida never looked better
Take Ashley and bring back Kait! Whatever you have to pay her!
Greetings From West Palm Beach! We now have Kate at WPTV News Channel 5 and already love her. Thanks
Kait come back……… You and Tim were great! Can’t stand to watch the morning news without you……
Heck.. WAKA has been going downhill for several years now.
I know the news is an aesthetic business, but I think when you have news talent that has proven their worthiness, you have to get past the outer shell, and judge them on their performance.
Frankly, I think that both WSFA and WAKA have their strengths and weaknesses, and people are going to watch according to their preferences.
For instance, I prefer Ashley McDonald over Rich Thomas for weather, but I prefer Jeff Shearer over Dee Jackson for Sports. WAKA seems to bring the local story home more than WSFA, who covers national news really well. I wish they would team Jeff Sanders and Stefanie Hicks up more often, then Stefanie and Glen. Glen’s great at politics. Lastly, I like Sally and Mark better than Valorie and Bob.
What do you guys think?
I figured Kait would be gone. She was a breath of fresh air first thing in the morning. I see she is now in South Florida. I am sure she will do a good job there as well.
Does anyone know what happened to Chris Bailey? Where is he these days?
Is WAKA’s morning show ever going to improve? The only reason I watch it is because I can’t stand that loudmouth on WSFA!
From what I’ve heard, he left the business. He’s rumored to still be in town, but I can’t confirm that. Personally, I think it was a good move for WAKA. And I liked Chris. I know a lot of viewers see Ashley as a young chief, but think about Chris 17 years ago. She could be starting something great for the station’s weather department. I’ve really liked what I’ve seen and I think she has a lot of potential. I disagree with a lot of comments about inaccurate forecasts and showing off her legs. She seems very knowledgeable and professional. It doesn’t hurt that I like brunettes either.
I agree with everything you said E about Ashley and it being the right move for WAKA. They needed to move forward.
I can tell you from working with her lately that she’s got a ton of ambition. She’s smart and has a very humble, professional spirit. She researches those bigger markets and finds out what looks good and brings it back to Montgomery. I think in the next year or so, we’ll see a great product coming from her weather center.
WHERE IS KAIT, HONESTLY THAT NEWS STATION HASN’T BEEN THE SAME SINCE ASHLEY CAME. BUT WAKING UP TO THE SUNNY PRESENCE THAT KAIT BROUGHT TO THE MORNING MADE IT EASIER TO GET UP. I THINK THAT THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WE ALL NEEDED, ESPECIALLY ON THOSE HATE TO GET OUT OF BED DAYS.
I WISH YOU THE BEST KAIT WHERE EVER THE LORD SENDS YOU. BE BLESSED AND KEEP THE FAITH. YOU HAVE A PRESENCE THAT CAN ONLY COME FROM GOD.
Your loss is our gain. Kait just showed up on the 6pm weather at WPTV West Palm Beach – NBC affilliate. Even my wife remarked on how cute/pretty that she is
Why does WSFA keep employees to stay long-term and WAKA can’t seem to keep them more than a couple years? I think it’s time someone looks at the real reasons there is so much more turnover at WAKA. Something is fishy to me. Anyone else notice this?
FINALLY: ANOTHER “SWEEPS” can be swept under the rug…

My dear fellow-
You do not belong around here. And I mean that as a compliment.
But give WSFA credit for doing a piece on something other than
Football, Hunting, or Civil Rights. Enjoy the land of MTV and Sesame Street as long as you can stand it…just keep your shots up to date.
Thank you for the compliment! That was a strange post with the spelling, the caps and the subject matter.
I will say though that I watch Sesame Street every Friday morning at 9. Elmo is a big deal around my house.
Did someone just use the word “iregardless”? Let’s all hope aboard the FAIL train and head to Yote U.
Brian, I think the Sesame Street and MTV reference might have been a loose comparison to the local newscasts in the area: Rather dimwitted and presented as if we were all children. Perhaps a barker in the corner of the screen might be next?
problems at waka? they’ve had them since they first came over from selma. and anyone who has ever worked at any bahakel-owned station is grateful to have found something better.
Every station has challenges, and it’s how you work through it that shows the type of people you are. Bahakel is family owned and they’ve worked hard to keep their media group intact without any layoffs. They’ve made a big commitment to Montgomery and I personally think they should be applauded. The fact that they also have a lot of long-term veterans working for them says a lot, too.
Yes they do have alot of long-term folks at WAKA, mainly behind the scenes. It must not be that bad over there…..
