WCOV Getting Grounded?
April 27th, 2011 • Related • Filed Under
Sattelite company Dish Network and local Fox affiliate WCOV are in a financial dispute that may result in WCOV being dropped from Dish on May 1.
The negotiations are still ongoing and per my reliable source within WCOV the two sides “thus far have not reached a deal.” The negotiations are definitely not over and it is not a lost cause at this point…more information will be coming soon…as soon as Thursday.
You may remember that WCOV is already not on DirecTV due to a financial dispute. If they are dropped from Dish, they for all reasons are grounded with the only way to receive their signal being by antennae or cable services.

Since I am a relatively intelligent being, I will take time to submit a reply of thought versus a response a of emotion, that is quite likely to make me sound much less intelligent than I really am:). It has always been my contention as a Social Worker and a Teacher that in the World of Bucks-N-Bodies, that the Bodies will loose out every time. It matters not what the industry. Where there is money to be considered- that is the most important business of the day- the bottom line. It matters not the significance- the degree of enhancement to the life of the person or persons that item, issue, decision would bring- if the price is not right, then the decision will not be in favor of the people. That is the story of our lives. So it is with the Entertainment Industry; Health Industry; Pharmaceutical Industry; just to name a few. Bucks-N-Bodies, the Bucks win every time!
WCOV should take in concideration all the people who enjoys their programing. Dish should know that me and alot of others I’m sure switched from direct because they could not give me local channels.
I agree with Marilyn , I for one changed to dishnet from directv because they would not give us local channels. there are alot of programs that I like to watch on this FOX channel. I hope this problem can be resolved !
I say screw you to WCOV. I’m sick of these small time local channels trying to squeeze more money from sat companies. I don’t want my bill to go up so I hope Dish stands there ground. WCOV is the worst of the locals here in Montgomery anyway and even though I can get them via OTA, I’ll just grab torrents of fox shows instead of watching them.
WCOV, thinks they are punishing Dish but, they are really punishing local viewers, not Dish. From Dish’s point of view, WCOV is a small channel with only a few thousand eyes, not worth the added cost. Hold your ground Dish, it’s time some puts these local channels in there place, they do not deserve the money they are asking for.
To Fox, Channel 20. David, cut the deal. I don’t want to lose you but it appears you’re bieng greedy. If there’s no problem with 8, 12 and 32, and you also have the same situation with DIRECT, maybe you’re the problem. Don’t be silly and mess up a good thing.
Gone.
Thank you Dish for standing your ground and fighting for lower cost for your subscribers.
To WCOV, I can watch the few FOX shows I like (House, Kitchen Nightmares) on Hulu Plus so I don’t even need you. Your local news is horrible anyway. See ya, hope you like losing thousands of eyes for your advertisers.
MTR has been a big defender of WCOV over the past several years. We’ve given them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to why they are not carried on certain local providers. However, when you add up the problems with Brighthouse, DirecTV and Dish Network, it makes you rethink things a little bit. WCOV is the only local that seems to have this problem and it is with several, not just one, TV provider. We’ll let you draw the conclusions as to who may be at fault.
I personally have Dish Network. However, I get WCOV at around 100% signal strength on my antenna in Wetumpka. Dish does make it easy to integrate an antenna and WCOV. It is much easier to focus on one station in the area with an antenna as well. An antenna would stick it to both WCOV and Dish in a way. You would get channel 20 for free! So right now not a penny of my Dish bill is going to WCOV. I think a poll may be coming soon. Flood WCOV and Dish with your complaints.
No other channel has this problem except WCOV??? I wonder if WCOV realizes how many Dish Network and Direct TV viewers there are? Sometimes we just learn to live without things and I believe that me and my family can learn to live without WCOV.
WSFA had this problem I think, remember the crawl?
well here I sit missing my peoples court because someone has dollar signs in thier eyes so with the extra 100 channels direct T.V. is offering I geuss I’ll just find it somewhere else. Anyone know what other channel carries American Idol?
Does anyone remember when they were arguing with Direct TV they thought that .50 cents per month was fair? Now 60 cents per month is fair? Come on WCOV quit blaming DISH and “big cable companies” for raising their prices when you are asking for increases. Some of us are not in an area that has cable service and can not get your service through an antennae that is reliable.
WCOV is a crappy channel. Give us a feed from another market so we can view FOX’s network programming and I will never miss WCOV. The news is horrible and unwatchable. There has to be 55 judge shows on other channels during the day. Other than the netowrk programming, I can’t think of a reason to watch WCOV. David Woods is obviously not much of a businessman. There are thousands of Dish and Direct viewers in his viewing area. Way to screw your viewers and your businesses that pay you big dollars to advertise on your bottom feeder channel.
This is just bad business David Wood. What a rip off!!!!!! So now we see how the mighty dollar rules a greedy weak minded……. best not say any more.
WCOV is a HORRIBLE station. I agree with Mike above. Why can’t they just give us Birmingham’s Fox station. I’m extremely upset over not being able to watch my favorite show, American Idol, but I won’t be crying over losing WCOV. And I won’t be going back to Charter and leaving Dish. We had Charter and the reception was horrible. Also, we fell on bad times two years ago and I called Dish to get rid of some of our channels to lower our bill. They put me through to several people until one of the top guys at Dish lowered our payments in half for a YEAR and we kept all of our channels. I love Dish Network.
Dish and DirecTV cannot legally add an out-of-market channel. However, we may qualify for what’s called “distant networks.” Call Dish and find out. They will always work with you on adjusting the price to compensate for losing WCOV.
It’s hillarious that company’s like Charter are trying to take advantage of this situation. They advertise that they have HD that never goes out. First, what a joke. Their HD offereing is nothing. Second, quit the false advertising that rain affects dishes. I’ve had DirecTV, Dish Network, Brighthouse, Charter and Knology. The sat companies rarely, if ever, lose service if you are aimed properly. It seemed like Charter and Knology always went out.
directv gave me gh 398 fox wnyw
If that is a NY station then it is a distant network that the sat companies can sell. I think you can either get Chicago, New york or L.A.
Dish told me I couldn’t get a distant network station (Directtv gave it to me though). I could only get it if I didn’t have a local station in my area. They gave me WWOR free since we don’t have a myNetworkTV affiliate.
