Viewpoint To Continue, Morris Made Offer
In a statement issued today from Bluewater Broadcasting Owner Rick Peters – it was announced that the Viewpoint program will continue but in a new time slot.
“Viewpoint, the longest running talk show in Alabama will continue to air on News Talk (107.9) at Noon, Monday-Friday, with a replay on the weekends. This will begin as soon as possible. Dan has been offered the host slot. If he chooses not to take it, then (Bluewater Broadcasting) will find someone who will. We believe that what Dan was doing on the air is valuable, just in the wrong daypart. Political discourse is the duty of any NewsTalk station. We will continue that tradition – in the right daypart.”
So, with that said, the offer is in Dan Morris’s court. He can return to News Talk 107.9 immediately, in a different time slot that management feels will be better for his program.

Is sports or other sections of the paper not news? I am sick of all this news about Obama and why he is messing all things up. Lets get to talking about some football and other sports or anything other than the Tee Party. MIX up the NEWS Talk and lets talk about ALL the news!
Noon until… ?
Seems a strange time a day for a Local Talk Show.
I wonder how that would fit in with Dan’s real job?
This will be Viewpoint’s original timeslot dating back to the 60′s. I believe this is an intelligent compromise.
Give it to Greg, he’s got free time in the middle of the day.
Sorry….I don’t care who you are, there was only one legitimate “Viewpoint”, and it was “Don Markwell’s Viewpoint”.

Dan Morris is a very intelligent man, who we Love. I hope that the radio station leaders don’t lose this great talent and treasure. I believe that the station has shown a lot of class by extending the olive branch to Dan. I pray that he will accept the offer. Ultimately Dan, must do what’s best for his family first.
We can still Love Dan, Greg and the station leaders at the same time, without taking sides. As along as everyone involved does what’s right, I’m convinced that everything will work out. Good Luck and Best wishes to you all!
Guess no one liked Dons “Viewpoint” & everyone else didnt like Dans that is why they turned him off.
oh”snap”!!! i just remembered for the time being, i am the longest running talk host in this part of the woods that makes me (htshic)
“Head Talk Show Host In Charge”.. any questions
Hows the view from the top there Kevin? Lots of responsibilities as the HTSHIC.
If Dan accepts this just don’t penalize him if the number of calls drop – most of us will be at work and not able to call. But, WE WILL BE LISTENING!
This is a NEWS talk station. If you want SPORTS talk, go to 740.
But you’re right about one thing: Yes, Obama has messed everything up. I just think we’re all amazed at the completeness of it.
Anyone need a band director at mid-day? (just kidding) As a longtime Montgomery radio listener, “Viewpoint” was indeed a noontime show, so this is more than what Brent called an intelligent compromise — it’s a return to the roots of the show. It may be that newsmakers may actually have more time to participate as news is happening, not just discussing the events of the previous day. Imagine the Legislature being in session, and as the legislators go back to their offices, staffers are hearing Brother Dan Morris blister ‘em on the air … this could be an awesome thing.
yes Mbird….i need a band director. you and i could do a show together and call it the band man and the bland man. as for the shooting the elephant in my pj’s, i still can’t figure out how the beast found its way into my pj’s.
Kevin Elkins is right about his own show that he is the HTSHIC daily for 5 things. 1-Repeating his same philosophy, giving bad information and arguing with his co-host over trivial issues that the average person already knows. 2-Keeping callers on hold for 30 minutes. 3-Hollering or cutting the callers off when he or co-host is losing the argument. 4- Wanting to be the center of attention regardless of venue. 5- Not realizing that most callers in the audience and those who work in various industries are much more intelligent than him or his co-host.
It has been refreshing to call in on 107.9 where we can learn from the callers and guests from different sectors and environments, by receiving CORRECT information. No talk show host, past or present can out think all of the listeners in the audience. Many with large egos can’t grasp this simple reality.
@Glenn, the worst part about Montiel and Elkins are the same screaming callers who call every day: Crazy Sanky, The Women Racists, and badly in need of some Meds Boomer T.
If they would limit their calls and also go on an FM, they would boom in the Ratings.
@Glenn,thats about the time I either listen to Matt Murphy on the Internet if I can, or find anything else if I am in the car.
Appointment radio. News/Talk/Sports is a stronghold of must-tune in radio, and has been for a while. Last weekend I was discussing this very subject with a co-worker at WACQ and he mentioned the amazing fact: despite rumors of AM’s demise, typically the #1 or #2 stations in the top markets are AM talk stations. One would hope that there will always be room for an important station that breaks news and features local hosts and calls.
Instead of everyone going for Kevin Elkins’ throat whenever he posts here, as a listener I’m glad he’s on. When you scan the dial and can come up with more than a few names who are actually live, local, and in studio … that’s a positive. Right?
I am glad Kevin Elkins is on the air locally. I am also glad that I have a tuner on my radio that allows me to tune out 1440 AM when he is on the air!
